He was raised near Portland, Oregon.
Jon’s paternal grandfather was Terry Edwin Metcalf (the son of Thomas Foster Metcalf and Dorothy Adams Parsons). Terry was born in Portland, Oregon, and had deep American roots. Thomas was the son of Thomas L. Metcalf and Nannie Foster. Dorothy was the daughter of Edwin Seely Parsons and Mabel Edith Holmes.
Jon’s paternal grandmother was Mary Patricia Berg (the daughter of Joseph Arthur Berg and Florence Margaret Powers). Mary was born in Coos, Oregon. Joseph was the son of Alexander Berg, who was Norwegian, from Stavanger; and of Susan Crain, whose father, and maternal grandparents, were Irish. Jon’s great-grandmother Florence was the daughter of Albert Henry Powers, whose mother was from London, England; and of Johanna Elizabeth Hogan, whose parents were Irish.
Jon’s maternal grandfather was Col. Dana Serr Prescott (the son of Harold Milton Prescott and Ida Laura Serr). Dana was born in Berkeley, California. Harold was the son of Daniels Carpenter Prescott and Estella Rosalie Baxter, and had deep roots in the U.S. Ida was the daughter of German emigrants, Daniel Serr, from Bavaria; and Mary Fredericks Schofer, from Prussia.
Jon’s maternal grandmother Mary Evelyn “Lynn” Cragin (the daughter of John Harold Cragin and Georgia Marshall). Mary was born in Missouri, and had partly deep American roots. John was the son of John Adna Cragin, whose mother was Scottish; and of Minnie Lucy Pease. Georgia was the daughter of George Barklow Marshall and James Elizabeth Ezell.
