José Pékerman is an Argentine professional footballer, and coach. A midfielder, he played for Argentinos Juniors and Independiente Medellín. He has been youth manager for Chacarita Juniors, Argentinos Juniors, and Colo-Colo, and manager for Argentina U20, the Argentina national team, Toluca, Tigres UANL, the Colombia national team, and the Venezuela national team. As a youth level coach for Argentina, he won the FIFA World Youth Championship three times, and the U20 South American Youth Championship twice.
José’s grandparents emigrated from Ukraine. They settled in the Jewish agricultural colonies of Entre Ríos Province, Argentina. He is said to be a distant relative of public figure, Serazer Pékerman. He was naturalized as a Colombian citizen in 2014.
José’s paternal grandfather was Salomón/Liome Pekerman (the son of Abraham Pekerman and Tube Molke Chepovosky). Salomon was born in Uman’, Cherkas’ka oblast, Ukraine. Abraham was the son of Zelik Peckerman.
