Josh Gibson was an American professional baseball player. A catcher, he played for the Memphis Red Sox, the Homestead Grays, the Pittsburgh Crawfords, and the Homestead Grays of the Negro leagues. Baseball historians consider him to be among the very best power hitters and catchers in the history of baseball, including Major League Baseball (MLB). He was often called the “black Babe Ruth.”

Josh was the son of Nancy and Mark Gibson. He was married to Helen Mason, until her death, with whom he had two children.
