Julie Chen Moonves, also known as Julie Chen, is an American television personality, news anchor, and producer.
She was born in Queens, New York City, New York, to mother Wan Ling Lou and father Yen Chun Chen. Her parents are Chinese, her father from Beijing. Her parents came to the U.S. for graduate studies. Her first language is Mandarin. Julie is married to CBS Chairman Leslie Moonves , with whom she has a son.
Julie’s maternal grandfather was named Lou Gaw Tong (the son of Lou Rulin). Gaw was born in Penglai Village, Anxi County, Fujian Province, and was a wealthy self-made businessperson, who co-founded Anshan Primary School with his brother in 1937. He participated in the Chinese Resistance against the Japanese in Burma during WWII, and also lived in Singapore. Gaw was a polygamist, who had six wives. Julie’s great-grandfather Rulin was a Department of Education official, who was appointed by the Emperor.
