Julie London was an American singer and actress. She was a torch singer, known for her contralto vocals, and her recording of the famous song “Cry Me a River.” She starred in the films Nabonga , On Stage Everybody , The Red House , Tap Roots , Task Force , Return of the Frontiersman , The Fat Man , The Fighting Chance (1955), Crime Against Joe , The Girl Can’t Help It , The Great Man , Drango , Saddle the Wind , A Question of Adultery , Voice in the Mirror , Man of the West , Night of the Quarter Moon , The Wonderful Country , The 3rd Voice , The George Raft Story , and The Helicopter Spies ; and on the series Emergency!
Julie was the daughter of Josephine Rosalie and Clarence Walter/Leamon “Jack” Peck, who were a song-and-dance team in vaudeville. She was raised in San Bernardino, then Hollywood, California. She was married to actor, jazz pianist, singer, and songwriter Bobby Troup, until his death. She had two children with her former husband, actor, producer, and director Jack Webb; and three children with Bobby.
Julie’s paternal grandfather was Wallace Elwood Peck (the son of Sedley Clarendale Peck and Mary Emeline Hazen). Wallace was born in Mesopotamia, Trumbull, Ohio. Sedley was born in Middlefield, Geauga, Ohio, the son of Horace Robert Peck, who was born in New York, and of Mary Johnson, who was born in Virginia. Julie’s great-grandmother Mary was born in Vermilion, Erie, Ohio, the daughter of George Washington Hazen, who was born in Worthington, Massachusetts, and of Mary Salisbury, who was an English immigrant.
Julie’s paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Santry O’Brian/O’Bryan (the daughter of Stephen O’Brian and Ellen Santry). Elizabeth was born in Virginia City, Storey, Nevada, to Irish parents.
