Julien Baker is an American indie rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She is a member of indie rock supergroup Boygenius, alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus ; and of country duo Julien Baker & Torres, with Torres. She was previously a member of band Forrister.
She was partly raised in Bartlett, Tennessee, near Memphis. Her family were devout Baptists.
Julien’s paternal grandfather was Vincent Lee Baker (the son of Vincent Young Baker and Bessie Lorene Manley). Julien’s grandfather Vincent was born in Dickson, Tennessee. Julien’s great-grandfather Vincent was the son of Loyd Newton Baker and Doshye Francis Sparks. Julien’s great-grandmother Bessie was the daughter of John Franklin Manley and Effie Bell Moore.
