Jüri Ratas is an Estonian politician. He has served as Prime Minister of Estonia , from 23 November, 2016 to 26 January, 2021. He was also Mayor of Tallinn, from 15 November, 2005 to 5 April, 2007, Leader of the Centre Party, from 5 November, 2016 to 10 September, 2023, and President of the Riigikogu, from 18 March, 2021 to 10 April, 2023; as well as, a Member of the Riigikogu, from 2 April, 2007 to 15 July, 2024, and a Member of the European Parliament for Estonia, since 16 July, 2024.
He is the son of Urve (Sepp) and politician Rein Ratas. He is married to Karin Esinum, with whom he has four children.
Jüri’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his third great-grandfather, Andres.
Jüri’s paternal grandfather was Feodor Ratas (the son of Jüri Ratas and Emilie Marie Jung). Feodor was born in Häädemeeste/Gudmannsbach, Häädemeeste khk. Jüri’s great-grandfather Jüri was the son of Jüri Ratas and Hedvig Bach. Emilie was the daughter of Mihkel Jung and Marie Soots.
Jüri’s paternal grandmother was Erna Armuand (the daughter of Peeter Armuand and Reet Aruoja Kivi). Erna was born in Saaremaa, Saare County. Peeter was the son of Paavel Armoand and Marre/Marie Tiik. Reet was the daughter of Karl Kivi and Maria Polding.
