Kari Lake is an American politician, television news personality, and right-wing conspiracy theorist. She has been Senior Advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, since March 4, 2025. She has been a Republican since 2012. She was the anchor for Phoenix television station KSAZ-TV, from 1999 to 2021.
Kari is the daughter of Sheila, a nurse, and Larry Lake, a teacher and football and basketball coach. She was raised in Iowa, attending high school in Eldridge. She is married to Jeff Halperin, with whom she has two children. Kari was raised Catholic. She later identified as Buddhist, and is now an Evangelical Christian.
Kari’s paternal grandfather was Victor Augustus Lake (the son of Albert Crook Lake and Rosella Belle Salmon). Victor was born in Wisconsin. Albert was the son of English parents, John R. Lake, from Devonshire, and Charlotte Crook. Rosella was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Salmon and Remeberance Baltzell.
Kari’s paternal grandmother was named Olga Maria Bergh (the daughter of Sever M. Bergh and Randi). Olga’s parents were Norwegian.
Kari’s maternal grandfather was Sylvester William McGuire (the son of Peter Edward McGuire and Rosanna Mae Riley). Sylvester was born in Iowa. Peter was the son of Irish parents, John J. McGuire, from County Fermanagh, and Mary McKiernan. Rosanna was the daughter of James Riley, who was Irish, and of Phebe Ann Geddes.
Kari’s maternal grandmother was Alice Isabella Fernette (the daughter of John Peter Fernette and Mary Christina Cota). Alice was born in Wisconsin. John was the son of French-Canadian parents, from Québec, Pierre Fernette Peter and Marie Clotilde LaVallee. Kari’s great-grandmother Mary was also the daughter of French-Canadian parents from Québec, Joseph H. Cota and Marie Claire Martel.
