She is the daughter of actress Abby Dalton (born Gladys Marlene Wasden) and Jack Smith.
Kathleen’s maternal grandfather was Raymond Fredrick Wasden (the son of Harmon Edward Wasden and Flossie Ann Quarnberg). Raymond was born in Scipio, Utah, to parents who were also born there. Harmon was the son of Frederick Wasden, who was English, from Aston, South Yorkshire; and of Anna Maria Kristina/Christina Esklund, who was Swedish, from Vamlingbo, Gotland. Flossie was the daughter of Swedish emigrants, from Vamlingbo, Gotland, Peter Jacob Quarnberg and Christina Marie/Maria Caroline/Carolina Hansén/Hanseen.
