Katie Porter is an American law professor, attorney, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she served as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California, from January 3, 2019 to January 3, 2025.

Her father, Dan Porter, was a farmer and banker. Her mother, Liz, was a founder of magazine and television program Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting. She was raised on a farm. She has three children with her former husband Matthew Hoffman.

Katie’s paternal grandfather was Donald Wayne Porter (the son of Loda Earl Porter and Myrtle Molln). Donald was born in Dodge, Iowa. Loda was the son of James Homer Porter and Margaret Jane Williams. Myrtle was the daughter of John Frederick Molin and Harriet G. Snell.

Katie’s paternal grandmother was Doris Kathleen Moffitt (the daughter of Theodore William Moffitt and Daisy Della Balius). Doris was born in Iowa. Theodore was the son of Nazariah Gaston Moffitt and Amanda Melvina Bragg. Daisy was the daughter of Charles William Balius and Rhoda Martha Batton.
