Keith Starmer is an English politician and barrister. He has been Prime Minister of the United Kingdom , since 5 July, 2024, and Leader of the Labour Party, since 4 April, 2020. He has also been Director of Public Prosecutions, from 1 November, 2008 to 1 November, 2013, Leader of the Opposition, from 4 April, 2020 to 5 July, 2024; as well as, a Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras, since 7 May, 2015.

He is the son of Josephine Anne, a nurse, and Rodney Starmer, a toolmaker. He was partly raised in Oxted, Surrey. Prime Minister Starmer is married to occupational health administrator and solicitor Victoria Starmer (née Alexander), with whom he has two children.

Prime Minister Starmer’s patrilineal line traces to Samuel Starmer, who was born, c. 1640, in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.

Prime Minister Starmer’s paternal grandfather was Herbert “Bertie” Starmer (the son of Gustavus Adolphus Starmer and Katherine/Catherine Mitchell). Herbert was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Gustavus Adolphus was born in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, the son of George Starmer and Matilda Buswell, and was a gamekeeper. Katherine was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, the daughter of James Mitchell and Johanna Landrigan, whose parents were from County Kilkenny.

Prime Minister Starmer’s paternal grandmother was Doris Edith Parsons (the daughter of Arthur Kenrick Parsons and Emma Halsey). Doris was born in Godstone, Surrey, England, to parents who were also born in the village. Arthur was the son of William Thomas Parsons and Elizabeth English. Emma was the daughter of John Halsey and Adelaide Cannell/Connell.

Prime Minister Starmer’s maternal grandfather was Ronald Frank Baker (the son of Frank Baker and Maud Louisa Stevens). Ronald was born in Reigate, Surrey, England. Prime Minister Starmer’s great-grandfather Frank was born in Merstham, Surrey, the son of Samuel Baker and Ellen Sharwood. Maud was the daughter of Owen Stevens and Edith Farmer.

Prime Minister Starmer’s maternal grandmother was Marjorie Watson Jones (the daughter of Arthur Watson Jones and Mabel Lilian Kimberley). Marjorie was born in Croydon, Surrey, England.
