Keizō Obuchi was a Japanese politician. He served as Prime Minister of Japan , from 30 July, 1998 to 3 April, 2000. He was also Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, and Director-General of the Okinawa Development Agency, both, from 9 November, 1979 to 17 July, 1980, Chief Cabinet Secretary, from 6 November, 1987 to 3 June, 1989, Minister for Foreign Affairs, from 11 September, 1997 to 30 July, 1998, and President of the Liberal Democratic Party, from 24 July, 1998 to 5 April, 2000; as well as, a Member of the House of Representatives, for Gunma 3rd, and then Gunma 5th, cumulatively, from 21 November, 1963 to 14 May, 2000.
He was the son of Chiyo and Mitsuhei Obuchi. He was married to environmental essayist Chizuko Ono, with whom he had three children, including politician Yūko Obuchi, who was Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, from 3 September, 2014 to 21 October, 2014.
