Kelly’s maternal grandfather was William Lamar Simpkins (the son of John Kelley Simpkins and Bessie Mae Albea). William was born in Bellsburg, Tennessee. John was born in Dickson, Tennessee, the son of John Wilkerson Simpkins and Eliza Mae “Lizzy” Gleaves. Bessie was born in Wilkes, Georgia, the daughter of George Lafayette Albea and Sarah S. Candler.
Kelly’s maternal grandmother was Harriet Heim Thomson (the daughter of Joseph Benjamin/Ben Thomson and Fannie Elizabeth Drake). Harriet was born in Adams, Robertson, Tennessee. Joseph was born in Marshall, Hawkins, Tennessee, the son of Henry Hugh Blackwell Thomson and Mary Lee Harris. Fannie was born in Jordonia, Davidson, Tennessee, the daughter of John Warfield Drake and Fannie Hunt, whose maternal grandfather was from County Galway, Ireland.
