Thomas was born in Pennsylvania, the son of William Wilbur Smith, whose parents were English; and of Alice A. Rhea, who was also English. Pearl was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert Bruce Thompson and Ellen Carol Reigle/Riege.
Kerr’s paternal grandmother was Doris Virginia Kerr (the daughter of Robert Van Cleve Kerr and Mabel Lula Knouse). Doris was born in Pennsylvania. Robert was the son of Robert John Kerr and Carrie/Carry Helen Cougle. Mabel was the daughter of Oliver Perry Knouse and Ada Jane Kaufman.
