Kim Thayil is an American musician. He is the lead guitarist of the Seattle-based rock band Soundgarden. Other members of Soundgarden include or have included Matt Cameron , Chris Cornell , Jason Everman , Ben Shepherd , Scott Sundquist , and Hiro Yamamoto . He was also a member of one-shot punk rock band The No WTO Combo, with Jello Biafra and Krist Novoselic .
His parents are from the state of Kerala in India, with Malayali ancestry. His father is named Boniface Thayil.
