Krista’s paternal grandfather was Roy Areatus Allen, Jr. (the son of Roy Areatus Allen and Helen Elizabeth Bushey). Krista’s grandfather Roy was born in Denton County, Texas. Krista’s great-grandfather Roy was born in Denton, Denton County, the son of James William “Will” Allen, who was from Tennessee; and of Leona E. Hunt. Krista’s great-grandmother Helen was born in Denton County, the daughter of Sylvester Alouisus Bushey/Boucher, who was born in Detroit, Michigan, to French-Canadian parents; and of Mary Elizabeth “Mollie” Duncan, whose maternal grandfather was German.
Krista’s paternal grandmother was Ima Jean Flenniken (the daughter of Herbert Marvin Flenniken and Mary Ellen “Med” Dickinson). Ima was born in Karnes County, Texas. Herbert was born in Haskell, Haskell County, Texas, the son of Thomas Wilkins/Wilkes Flenniken, who was from Arkansas; and of Cynthia Malvina Hamblin, whose father was a minister, and a slaveowner. Krista’s great-grandmother Mary Ellen was born in Bandera County, Texas, the daughter of The Rev. Samuel Abel Dickinson and Laura Ann Finley.

Martin was Irish, the son of Peter Nolan and Mary. Blanche was born in Indiana, the daughter of George Washington Simmons and Elisabeth Jane King.
Through her maternal grandmother, Krista is descended, at least twice, from Elizabeth Key Grinstead, a woman born in the 1600s, to a white English father and a black slave mother. Elizabeth was the first woman of African ancestry in the Colonies to successfully sue for her own emancipation from slavery. If the genealogy is accurate, it would make Krista of 3/4096 African ancestry; through those lines.
