Laleh Pourkarim is an Iranian-Swedish singer, songwriter, record producer, guitarist, pianist, record company manager, and actress. She records pop and folk music.
Laleh was born in Bandar-e Anzali, Iran. She is the daughter of Atefe Wasei and Houshang Pourkarim. Her father was an artist, journalist, and prominent ethnologist and rural sociologist. She has stated :
My mother came as a refugee to Iran from Azerbaijan and Georgia, my father is from northern Iran. Therefore, it’s hard for me to say that I only feel like an Iranian when her Azerbaijani background is in me and was important to her.
