Laura is the daughter of model Denise Ellen (Coward) and actor John James (born John Frederick Anderson). Laura’s mother is Australian, and was a second runner-up on Miss World 1978. Laura’s father was born in Minnesota. Laura is married to actor Jon-Michael Ecker , with whom she has two children.
Laura’s paternal grandfather was Herbert Oscar “Herb” Anderson, the son of Fred Anderson and Frieda Munson. Frieda was Swedish.
Laura’s paternal grandmother was Theresa Marie “Terry” Kirchoff/Kirkoff (the daughter of John Kirchoff and Anna/Annie Skrentny). John was the son of Cleman Kirchoff, whose own parents were German, and of Mary Anna Naber/Nober, whose own parents were also German. Anna was the daughter of William Skrentny and Anna/Annie Wojeteckie/Woztecki, who were born in Germany and were evidently of Polish descent.
