Lee Harvey Oswald was a U.S. Marine veteran, who killed U.S. President John F. Kennedy , and then killed police officer J. D. Tippit, on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. Two days after, Lee was fatally shot on live television, while in police custody, by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby.

Lee was the son of Marguerite Frances, a legal clerk, and Robert Edward Lee Oswald, a MetLife worker, who was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWI. His family moved to Dallas, in 1944. He was married to Marina Oswald Porter (born Marina Nikolayevna Prusakova), a Russian pharmacist, from Severodvinsk, from 1961 to his death. The couple had two children. Lee met his wife after defecting to the Soviet Union. The following year, he returned with her to the U.S.

Lee’s paternal grandfather was William Maxwell Oswald (the son of Col. Thomas Hepworth Oswald, Jr. and Lucy Maria Hannah). William was born in Mississippi. Thomas was born in Liberty Co., Georgia, the son of Thomas Hepworth Oswald and Ann Maxwell. Lucy was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Luna.

Lee’s paternal grandmother was Mary Harvey (the daughter of David Henry/Harry Harvey and Mary Tonry/Tierney). Lee’s grandmother Mary was born in Louisiana. Henry was born in Pennsylvania, the son of David Harvey, who was Irish. Lee’s great-grandmother Mary was also Irish.

Lee’s maternal grandfather was John Martial Claverie (the son of John/Francois W. Claverie and Jeanne/Jean/Mathilde Casabat/Cayabot). John was born in New Orelans, Louisiana, and had French ancestry. He was a streetcar conductor.

Lee’s maternal grandmother was Dorothea/Dora Eva Stucke (the daughter of Henry Charles Stucke and Margarethe/Margaret Karcher/Karg). Dorothea was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a Dutch father and a German mother, from Bavaria.

Lee was a third cousin, once removed, of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt . Lee’s paternal great-great-great-grandparents, Joseph Oswald and Ann Carter, were also President Roosevelt’s maternal great-great-grandparents.
