Lefty Gomez was an American professional baseball player. A pitcher, he played for the New York Yankees and the Washington Senators of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a Yankee.
Lefty was the son of Elizabeth and Francisco/Frank M. Gomez. He was married to actress and entertainer June O’Dea, with whom he had four children.
Lefty’s paternal grandparents were named Juan Francisco Gomez and Rita F. Cruz. Juan was either Portuguese, or Spanish-born. Rita was Portuguese.
Lefty Gomez’ maternal grandfather was Elias Herring (the son of Lewis Herring and Susannah Alloway).
Lefty’s maternal grandmother was Mary Jane Williams (the daughter of John Buckner Pitman Williams and Lucinda Smalley).
