Leigh Whannell is an Australian screenwriter, actor, film producer, and film director. He wrote the films Saw (2004), Saw III , Dead Silence , Insidious , Insidious: Chapter 2 , and Insidious: The Last Key ; co-wrote the films Saw II , Cooties , and The Mule (2014); directed and wrote the films Insidious: Chapter 3 , Upgrade , and The Invisible Man (2020); directed and co-wrote the film Wolf Man (2025); and co-wrote the video game Saw . He has also starred in his Saw , the Insidious franchise, Cooties , and The Mule ; and appeared in the video game Enter the Matrix , in the films The Matrix Reloaded , Death Sentence , Dying Breed , Crush (2013), The Bye Bye Man , and Keep Watching , and on the shows Neighbours , Recovery , and Blue Heelers . He often works with James Wan .
Leigh’s father was a cameraman in the television industry. He is married to Corbett Tuck, and has three children.
