Leslie’s paternal grandfather was Gerald William Hope (the son of Francis William Hope and Gertrude Julia Phelan). Gerald was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Francis was the son of William Arthur Hope, whose father was German, and whose mother was English; and of Sophia Melinda Robinson. Leslie’s great-grandmother Gertrude was the daughter of Edward Phelan and Margaret Connolly, who were both the children of Irish parents.
Leslie’s paternal grandmother was Marjorie Anne Daley (the daughter of James Joseph Daley and Caroline Benedicta Purcell). Marjorie was born in Truro, Nova Scotia. James was the son of Irish immigrants, John Dennis Daley and Mary Harris Grant. Caroline was the daughter of James Purcell and Ann Marvin, and had deep roots in Canada.
Leslie’s maternal grandfather was John Laurier Cohoon (the son of William Calder Cohoon and Mabel Hattie Eagles). John was born in White Rock, Nova Scotia, and deep American and Canadian roots. William was the son of John Frederick Cohoon and Sarah Koch, who were mostly of German descent. Mabel was the daughter of John William Eagles and Eunice Eudivilla Bishop.
Leslie’s maternal grandmother was Jennie May Eisenhauer (the daughter of Nathan Wilmot Eisenhauer and Lydia Adelia Vaughan). Jennie was born in Canaan, Nova Scotia, and had deep roots in both Canada and the U.S. Nathan was the son of Arthur Rupert Eisenhauer and Catherine Elizabeth Greenlaw.
