Lila Kedrova was a Russian-French actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Zorba the Greek (1964). She also won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for the same role in the musical version of the film.

She born in St. Petersburg, Russian Empire, now Russia. Her father, Nikolay Kedrov, Sr. (Nikolay Nikolaevich Kedrov), a singer and composer, created the first Russian male quartet to perform liturgical chants. Her mother, Sofia Nikolaevna Gladkaya, was a singer at the Mariinsky Theatre, and a teacher of Conservatoire de Paris. Her siblings were Nikolay Kedrov, Jr., a singer and composer of liturgical music, and Irene Kedroff (Irina Nikolayevna Kedrova), a soprano. Her family moved to Berlin, Germany, in 1922, and then to France, in 1928.

Lila was married to Canadian stage director Richard Howard, until her death.

Lila’s paternal grandfather was named Nikolay Kedrov. Nikolay was a Russian Orthodox archpriest.

Lila’s maternal grandfather was named Nikolay Gladkiy.
