Lori Lightfoot is an American politician and lawyer. A member of the Democratic Party, she served as President of the Chicago Police Board, from July 29, 2015 to May 7, 2018, and Mayor of Chicago, from May 20, 2019 to May 15, 2023. She is the first openly gay person, and the second woman, to be elected mayor of a U.S. city of that size. (The first woman, Jane Byrne, was also Mayor of Chicago).

Lori is married to Amy Eshleman, with whom she has a daughter, who is adopted.

Lori’s paternal grandfather was Raleigh Lightfoot (the son of A. Lightfoot and Minnie Jackson). Raleigh was born in Arkansas.

Lori’s paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Pierce (the daughter of Alex Pierce and Lula Collins). Elizabeth was born in Arkansas.

Lori’s maternal grandfather was John Thomas Lowery (the son of Oliver Grant Lowery and Fronnie Jane Bodiford). John Thomas was born in Alabama. Fronnie was the daughter of Martha.
