Louie Psihoyos is an American photographer and documentary film director. He has directed the documentaries The Cove (2009), in which he appeared, and which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film; as well as Racing Extinction , The Game Changers , and Mission: Joy . He also directed the documentary series You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment . He co-founded non-profit organization Oceanic Preservation Society. He is known for his still photography, especially in National Geographic.

His father was a Greek emigrant to the U.S., from Sellasia, Sparta. His mother was also of Greek descent. He has been married, and has two children.

Louie’s maternal grandfather was named Charles K. Petrakis. Charles was born in Sparta.

Louie’s maternal grandmother was named Mary A. Antonopoulos. Mary was Greek.
