Luiz Felipe Scolari, also known as Felipão in Brazil, is a Brazilian professional footballer, and manager. A defender, he played for Aimoré, Caxias, Juventude, Novo Hamburgo, and CSA. He managed CSA, Juventude, Brasil de Pelotas, Al Shabab, Pelotas, Grêmio, Goiás, Qadsia, the Kuwait national team, Coritiba, Criciúma, Al-Ahli, Júbilo Iwata, Palmeiras, Cruzeiro, the Brazil national team, the Portugal national team, Chelsea, Bunyodkor, Guangzhou Evergrande, Athletico Paranaense, and Atlético Mineiro. He also holds Italian citizenship. He is nicknamed Felipão/”Big Phil.”
Luiz is the son of Cecy Leda Gabriel and Benjamin Jeronymo Scolari. He is Catholic.
Luiz’s paternal grandfather was named Luigi “Luiz” Scolari (the son of Luigia Bellini). Luiz’s grandfather Luigi was born in Sant’Apollonia, near Cologna Veneta, Province of Verona, Veneto, Italy, and emigrated to Brazil in 1891.
Luiz’s paternal grandmother was Genoveva Giavarina (the daughter of Santo Giavarina and Angela Spangoli/Spagnollo). Genoveva was born in Nova Palma, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to Italian parents. Santo was born in Arcole, Province of Verona, Veneto, Itay.
