Mackenzie Crook is an English actor, director, comedian, and writer. His roles include the films Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl , Sex Lives of the Potato Men , Finding Neverland , The Merchant of Venice (2004), The Brothers Grimm , Quest for a Heart , I Want Candy , Three and Out , City of Ember , Solomon Kane , Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll , Ironclad , The Adventures of Tintin , Cheerful Weather for the Wedding , In Secret , One Chance , Eat Locals , and Tales from the Lodge ; and the shows The Office , Monkey Trousers , Popetown , which he also wrote for; Modern Toss , Game of Thrones , Almost Human , Detectorists , which he also created, directed, and wrote; Ordinary Lies , Yonderland , Britannia , Watership Down , Worzel Gummidge , which he also directed and wrote; and The Wayfinders .

He is the son of Sheila, a hospital manager, and Michael Crook, a British Airways employee. Mackenzie was partly raised in Dartford, Kent, and spent summers on his uncle’s tobacco farm in northern Zimbabwe. He is married to advertising executive Lindsay, with whom he has two children.

Mackenzie’s maternal grandfather was Stanley Charles Brill (the son of Charles Brill and Edith Florence M. Rockwell). Stanley was born in Woolwich, London, England. Mackenzie’s great-grandfather Charles was the son of William Brill and Sarah Anne Spong. Edith was born in Woolwich, the daughter of William John Rockwell and Margaret Sophia Hughes, who was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to a father from Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Mackenzie’s maternal grandmother was Irene Joan Sangster (the daughter of Thomas Sangster and Eliza Ison). Irene was born in Lewisham, London, England. Thomas was born in Plumstead, Kent, the son of Henry Sangster and Alice Amelia Avey. Eliza was born in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, the daughter of Herbert Ison and Rebecca Reeve.
