Mahmoud Abbas (محمود عباس), also known as “Abu Mazen” (أَبُو مَازِن), is a Palestinian politician. He has been President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), and President of Palestine, both, since 15 January, 2005, as well as, Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, from 19 March, 2003 to 6 September, 2003, and Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), since 29 October, 2004. He is based in Ramallah, West Bank.
His family left for Syria during the 1948 Israeli-Palestinian war. He attended university in Damascus, before living in Egypt. Mahmoud is married to Amina Abbas (born Amina Khaled Mustafa Al-Fanous), with whom he has three children, including multi-millionaire Palestinian-Canadian businessperson Yasser Abbas.
Mahmoud is a Muslim.
