Maika Monroe is an American actress and professional kiteboarder. A prolific “scream queen,” her roles include the films At Any Price , Labor Day (2013), The Guest (2014), It Follows , Echoes of War , The 5th Wave , Independence Day: Resurgence , Bokeh , Hot Summer Nights , The Scent of Rain and Lightning , Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House , I’m Not Here (2017), The Tribes of Palos Verdes , After Everything , Tau , Greta , Honey Boy , Villains (2019), Brothers by Blood , Flashback (2020), Watcher (2022), Significant Other , God Is a Bullet , and Longlegs ; and the show The Stranger (2020).
Born with the first name Dillon, she later changed her first name to Maika, by which she had already been informally called for most of her life. Her father is a construction worker and her mother is a sign language interpreter. She spent part of her teenage years in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, where she practised kiteboarding.
Maika’s paternal grandfather was Elton James Buckley (the son of Earle Ancker Buckley and Isabel Lyman). Elton was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and had deep roots in the U.S. Earle was the son of Elton James Buckley and Mabel Ancker. Isabel was the daughter of Charles Ellsworth Lyman and Catherine May Jacobs.
Maika’s paternal grandmother was Patricia Anne Weyer (the daughter of John Henry Weyer and Elma Mary Martz). Patricia was born in Dayton, Ohio. John was a German immigrant, and was the son of Henry William Weyer, from Hamburg, and of Sophia Rebink. Elma was the daughter of Jacob John Martz and Mary Bach, who were born in Ohio, both of them to German parents.
Maika’s maternal grandfather is William Allan Clute (the son of William/Walter “Bill” Black Clute and Annabelle Lee Reid). Maika’s grandfather William was born in California. Maika’s great-grandfather William/Walter was the son of Clarence Roe Clute and Cora Irene Wheeler. Annabelle was Canadian, and was the daughter of Allan Ramsey Reid, who had Scottish ancestry, and of Anna Valgerdur Stefanson/Steffanson, who was of Icelandic descent.
Maika’s maternal grandmother is Heather Ann Reese Morrison (the daughter of Dr. Gordon Monroe Morrison and Frances Edith Reese/Rees). Heather was born in California. Gordon was the son of Dr. Norman Donald Morrison and Francis Amy Bull.
