Manuel L. Quezon was a Filipino statesman, soldier, and politician. He served as the 2nd President of the Philippines , from 15 November, 1935 to 1 August, 1944, his death. He was also a Member of the Lucena Municipal Council, in 1906, Governor of Tayabas, from 1906 to 1907, Member of the Philippine Assembly from Tayabas’s 1st district, from 16 October, 1907 to 15 May, 1909, Assembly Majority Leader, from 16 October, 1907 to 23 November, 1909, Resident Commissioner to the U.S. House of Representatives from the Philippine Islands, from 23 November, 1909 to 15 October, 1916, Senator of the Philippines, and President of the Senate of the Philippines, both, from 16 October, 1916 to 15 November, 1935; President of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation, from 1916 to 1935; President of the Nacionalista Party, from 1935 to 1944; Secretary of Public Instruction, from 1 December, 1938 to 19 April, 1939; Mayor of Quezon City, from 12 October, 1939 to 4 November, 1939; and Secretary of National Defense, from 16 July, 1941 to 11 December, 1941.

President Quezon’s father, Lucio Quezón Urbina (or Lucio Urbina Quezón in Filipino), was a soldier, from Dilao, now Paco, Manila, and was of part Chinese descent. President Quezon’s mother, María Dolores Molina, was a Spanish mestiza, also from Baler.

President Quezon was married to his first cousin, Aurora Antonia Aragón y Molina (or Aurora Antonia Molina Aragón in Filipino), with whom he had four children.

President Quezon’s paternal grandfather was Mariano Quezón (the son of Policarpio Quezón and María Carmina). Mariano was born in Paco, Manila. Policarpio was Chinese.

President Quezon’s paternal grandmother was named Juana Urbina de los Reyes. Juana was born in Binondo, Manila, and was a foundling, of part Spanish descent.

President Quezon’s maternal grandfather was José Eusebio Urbina de Esparragosa (the son of Pedro Antonio Hermenegildo Urbina Morales and María de los Dolores). José was a Spanish Franciscan friar, from Esparragosa de la Serena, Badajoz, Extremadura. Pedro was the son of Cándido Urbina Blázquez and Isabel María Morales Blázquez. President Quezon’s great-grandmother María was a foundling. Owing that José’s mother had no surname, he took the family name based on his hometown.

President Quezon’s maternal grandmother was Brígida Molina y López (or Brígida López Molina in Filipino, the daughter of Isidoro Molina and María López). Brígida was a Filipina.
