Marcy Kaptur is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she has served as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio, since January 3, 1983. As of 2025, she is the longest-serving woman in U.S. Congress history. Previously, she was director of planning for the National Center for Urban Ethnic Affairs, from 1975 to 1977.
Marcy is the daughter Anastasia Delores (Rogowski), an automobile union organizer, and Stephen Jacob Kaptur, who operated the family’s small grocery store. Her parents were born in Toledo, and all of her grandparents were Polish. Her father’s family was from Żnin. Her mother’s family was from Polonne, now Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ukraine. Marcy is Catholic.
Marcy’s paternal grandfather was John Kaptur (the son of Józef Kaptur and Michalina Chudzińska).
