Margo Guryan was an American singer, songwriter, and composer. She is known for her 1968 album “Take a Picture,” and was also a songwriter for other artists in the 1960s. Margo trained in classical music and jazz composition, studying at Boston University, and working with jazz trombonist and pianist Bob Brookmeyer.
Margo was born in New York City, to Evelyn and Seymour “Sey” Guryan. She was married to producer David Rosner, until his death. She was also known as Brookmeyer, while married to Bob Brookmeyer, and Margo Guryan Rosner.
Margo’s paternal grandfather was Isidore/Isidor “Ike” Guryan (the son of Nachman Guryan and Bella Charman). Isidore was born in Minsk, Belarus.
Margo’s paternal grandmother was Mildred “Millie” Schott (the daughter of Herman/Hyman Schott and Rachel “Rae” Gidnan/Gidnansky). Mildred was born in New York City, to Russian Jewish parents.
Margo’s maternal grandfather was Morris Jacob Lessoff/Lesoff (the son of Jacob Lessoff and Brincha Reba). Morris was born in Minsk, Belarus.
Margo’s maternal grandmother was named Bertha Finkel. Bertha was born in Russia.
