Maria is the daughter of Catherine and Thomas Thayer. She was raised in Boring, Oregon, and Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Maria’s paternal grandfather was LaVerne Contris Thayer (the son of Clyde Daniel Thayer and Nora Alma Contris). Laverne was born in Lima, Ohio, and had deep roots in the U.S. Clyde was the son of Isaac Elijah Thayer and Martha Ann Hanthorn. Nora was the daughter of Melanchton Contris and Emma Cecilia Corbet.
Maria’s paternal grandmother was Nora Belle/Bell Simmons (the daughter of Henry Lemuel Simmons and Cordelia Mitchell). Nora was born in Athens, Georgia, and had deep American roots.
