Marie Windsor was an American actress. She was known for her roles in the films Living in a Big Way , The Hucksters , Song of the Thin Man , The Three Musketeers , Force of Evil (1948), Frenchie (1950), Little Big Horn , The Narrow Margin (1952), The Eddie Cantor Story , The Bounty Hunter (1954), Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy , The Killing (1956), Paradise Alley (1962), The Day Mars Invaded Earth , Chamber of Horrors , One More Train to Rob , Support Your Local Gunfighter , Cahill U.S. Marshal , Freaky Friday (1976), and Lovely But Deadly , and in the mini-series Salem’s Lot (1979). She was dubbed the “queen” of B-movies.
Marie was the daughter of Etta Marie and Lane Joseph Bertelsen. She was queen of Covered Wagon Days in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1939. She was married to realtor and basketball player Jack Hupp, until her death, with whom she had a son. Jack was the son of Canadian-born screenwriter, actor, and film director Earle Rodney. Marie was LDS (Mormon).
Marie’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Dodds Bertelsen (the son of Andrew/Andreas Bertlesen/Bertelsen/Bertelson and Hannah Dodds). Joseph was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Andreas was born in Padborg, Aabenraa Municipality, Denmark, the son of Joachem Bertlesen/Bertelsen and Christina Lorenzen, who were from Prussia and Schleswig-Holstein, respectively. Marie’s great-grandmother Hannah was an English emigrant, born in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, the daughter of Christopher Dodds and Harriet Turner.
Marie’s paternal grandmother was Emily Tyresha McCarty (the daughter of James Hardwick “Jimmy” McCarty and Lydia Margaret Cragun). Emily was born in St. George, Utah, and had deep roots in the U.S. James was born in Meade, Kentucky, the son of James McCarty and Rebecca F. Murdock, whose father was born in Ireland.
