Mario Lemieux is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A centre, he played around seventeen seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL); and was with the Canada national team. He was the first overall pick in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, where he was selected by the Penguins. He assumed ownership of the Penguins in 1999, later becoming part-owner in 2021. He has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is nicknamed “The Magnificent One,” “Le Magnifique,” and “Super Mario.” He is 6′4″.
Mario was born in Montréal, the son of Pierrette, a stay-at-home mother, and Jean-Guy Lemieux, an engineer. He and his older brothers, Alain and Richard, grew up in a working class family in the Ville-Émard district. Mario is married to Nathalie Asselin, with whom he has four children.
