Marshall Herskovitz is an American film director, writer, and producer. He has directed the films Jack the Bear and Dangerous Beauty , and co-written the films The Last Samurai , Love & Other Drugs , Jack Reacher: Never Go Back , and American Assassin . He co-created and was co-showrunner of Thirtysomething , and co-created the shows Once and Again and Quarterlife ; he also wrote for, and directed episodes of, the three shows. He was also a showrunner for Nashville , which he also wrote for. He is the President Emeritus of the Producers Guild of America. He has often worked with Edward Zwick .
Marshall is the son of Frieda/Freeda and Alexander Herskovitz. His father was born in Missouri, to Romanian Jewish parents. His mother was born in New Jersey, to Russian Jewish parents. He is married to photographer Landry Major. He has two children with his former wife, screenwriter Susan Shilliday.
