Martin Scorsese is an Academy Award-winning American director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and film historian. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for The Departed (2006). He has directed the feature films Who’s That Knocking at My Door , Boxcar Bertha , Mean Streets , Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore , Taxi Driver , New York, New York (1977); Raging Bull , The King of Comedy , After Hours , The Color of Money , The Last Temptation of Christ , Goodfellas , Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence (1993), Casino (1995), Kundun , Bringing Out the Dead , Gangs of New York , The Aviator (2004), The Departed , Shutter Island , Hugo , The Wolf of Wall Street , Silence (2016), The Irishman , and Killers of the Flower Moon . He also wrote his Who’s That Knocking at My Door , and co-wrote Mean Streets , Goodfellas , The Age of Innocence , Casino , Silence , and Killers of the Flower Moon , as well as the film Bezeten, Het Gat in de Muur .
His parents, Catherine (Cappa) and Luciano Charles Scorsese, were both of Sicilian descent, and appeared in his films. Martin is married to Helen Schermerhorn Morris. He has a daughter with his former wife Laraine Marie Brennan; a daughter with his former wife, teacher, author, and artist Julia Cameron; and a daughter, actress, filmmaker, and TikTok creator Francesca Scorsese , with Helen.
Martin’s paternal grandfather was Francesco/Frank Paolo Scorsese (the son of Giulio Antonino Luciano Scozzese and Pasqualina Rosa Sanza). Francesco was a peasant. He was born in Polizzi Generosa, Province of Palermo, Sicily, to parents who were also born there.
Martin’s paternal grandmother was named Stefana Teresa/Tessie Badaglina/Badagliana. Teresa was born in Polizzi Generosa.
