Matt Braly is an American animator, storyboard artist, writer, director, and voice actor. He created and showran the series Amphibia , for which he was also a writer. The show is based on his childhood and heritage, as a second-generation Thai-American visiting his ancestral home. He was also a director on the show Gravity Falls , a writer on the show Steven Universe , and a director and writer on the show Big City Greens . He was also a storyboard artist on all of the above. He was assistant animator on the short film Adam and Dog , and a storyboard artist on the films Turbo (2013) and The Mitchells vs. the Machines .
Matt is the son of On and Bruce Braly. He spent summers with his mother’s family in Bangkok, Thailand. He is married to Katherine Bedrosian, with whom he has one child.
Matt’s paternal grandfather was James Whisman Braly (the son of John Claude Braly and Mary Blanche Shephard/Shepherd). James was born in Fullerton, Orange, California.
Matt’s paternal grandmother was Betty Ona O’Connor (the daughter of Francis Clyde O’Connor and Leona Frances Butler). Betty was born in Globe, Arizona. Leona was the daughter of Thomas Alfred Butler and Vashti Rhuama Couklin. Through Thomas, Matt descends from politician and lawyer John Dalrymple, 1st Earl of Stair (1648-1707).
Matt’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Bhumiratana.
