Matt Meyer is an American politician and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party, he has been Governor of Delaware, since January 21, 2025. He was previously Executive of New Castle County, from January 3, 2017 to January 7, 2025.
Matt was raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He is married to Lauren, with whom he has a son.
Matt’s paternal grandfather was named Charles Meyer.
Matt’s maternal grandfather was Louis Shaffer (the son of Moses/Moishe Shaffer/Shereshevsky and Rae/Rachel Tomberg). Louis was born in Augustów, Podlaskie, Poland, to a Jewish family. Moses was born in Grodno, Belarus, the son of Herschel Shereshevsky and Bayla Finkelstein. Rae was born in Suwałki, Podlaskie, the daughter of Beryl Tombacher and Cypa Rachema Berker.
Matt’s maternal grandmother was Sarah Thalenfeld (the daughter of Isadore Thalenfeld and Malka/Mollie Feuerman). Sarah was born in Pennsylvania, to Jewish emigrants from Galicia/Ukraine. Isadore was born in Holyn, Prykarpattia, the son of David Thalenfeld and Freda Fischbein. Mollie was born in Knyahynya, Zakarpattia, the daughter of Emil Asher Zalman Feuerman, who was from Stakčínska Roztoka, Prešov, Slovakia; and of Sarah Zalle.
