Matteo Salvini is an Italian politician. He has been Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, both, since 22 October, 2022; Federal Secretary of the League, since 15 December, 2013, and a Member of the Senate of the Republic, since 23 March, 2018. He was previously Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, and Minister of the Interior, both, from 1 June, 2018 to 5 September, 2019; as well as, a Member of the European Parliament, from 20 July, 2004 to 7 November, 2006, and again, from 14 July, 2009 to 22 March, 2018; and a Member of the Chamber of Deputies, from 29 April, 2008 to 13 July, 2009, and again, from 6 March, 2013 to 15 March, 2013.
He is the son of Silvana and business executive Ettore Salvini. Matteo has a son with his former wife, journalist Fabrizia Ieluzzi; and a daughter with his former partner Giulia Martinelli.
Matteo’s paternal grandfather was named Aldo Salvini.
He is said to have an Emilia-Romagnan grandmother.
