Mauricio Pochettino is an Argentine professional footballer and football coach. A centre-back, he played for Newell’s Old Boys, Espanyol, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bordeaux, and the Argentina national team. He manages the United States national team, and previously managed Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.
Mauricio is the son of Amalia Adela Trossero and Héctor Reynaldo Pochettino. His parents’ surnames are of Piedmontese origin, in North-West Italy. He is married to Karina Grippaldi, with whom he has two children, professional footballer Maurizio Pochettino and football manager and trainer Sebastiano Pochettino.
Mauricio’s paternal great-great-grandfather was Michele Pochettino (the son of Matteo Pochettino and Virgilia/Virginia Fraire). Michele was born in Virle Piemonte, Province of Turin, Piedmont, Italy, and moved with his parents to Argentina in 1867, at three years old.
