McKayla Maroney is an American artistic gymnast, and actress. She was a was a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team dubbed, “the Fierce Five,” at the 2012 Summer Olympics; she won a team gold medal, and an individual silver medal in the vault event.
She is the daughter of Erin and Michael Maroney. Her father was a quarterback at Purdue University. Her mother was involved in figure skating and high school sports.
McKayla’s paternal grandfather is James Maroney (the son of John L. Maroney and Alice Lamb). James was born in Connecticut. John was born in New York, the son of James Moroney and Winifred Lee, both of whom were also born in New York, both of them to Irish parents. Alice was Northern Irish.
McKayla’s paternal grandmother was Eleanor Marie Sliney (the daughter of Joseph Patrick Sliney and Ellen Veronica “Nellie” Abbott). Eleanor was born in New York. Joseph was of Irish descent, and was the son of William Sliney and Ellen Jackson. McKayla’s great-grandmother Ellen born in Bradford, England, the daughter of Samuel Abbott and Elizabeth Ann Holmes.
