Her mother is a recording artist and painter. Meja’s maternal grandfather, Per Lundkvist, was a classical and contemporary composer. She moved to Mallorca, Spain, at sixteen, to study.
Meja’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fourth great-grandfather, Paul Paulsen Mælestuen.
Meja’s paternal grandfather was Axel Konrad Karlsson (the son of Paul Karlsson and Christina Margretha Olofsdotter). Axel was born in Södertälje. Paul was the son of Carl Henrik Paulsen Mælestuen (or Karl Henrik Pålsson in Swedish), who was a Norwegian carpenter, from Levanger, and of Märit Andersdotter. Meja’s maternal grandfather was Per Inge Ingesson Lundkvist (the son of Inge Lundqvist and Ragnhild Viktoria Maria Berglund). Per was born in Karlstads domkyrkoförs.
