Melia’s paternal grandmother was Harriette J. Hofer (the daughter of Theodore Charles Hofer and Myrtle Frances Weaver). Theodore was born in Princeville, Peoria County, Illinois, the son of Lucas Sylvester Hofer, whose parents were German, with roots in Ortenaukreis, Baden-Württemberg; and of Caroline Margaret Friedman, whose parents were also German, with roots in Baden-Baden, Stadtkreis Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg. Melia’s great-grandmother Myrtle was born in Princeville, Peoria County, Illinois, the daughter of Winfield Scott Weaver and Malinda Jane “Jennie” Murphy/Murphey.
