Melissa’s maternal grandfather was Earl Arthur DuKatz (the son of Arthur William DuKatz and Minnie E. Gunnon). Melissa’s great-grandfather Arthur was the son of German parents, August Hermann DuKatz and Ottilie Juliann Nikolai, from Bromberg. Minnie was the daughter of Matthew Gunnon, whose parents were Irish, and of Emma Malchow, who was German.
Melissa’s maternal grandmother was Marion Catherine Stinski (the daughter of Benjamin John Stinski and Hazel May Coleman). Marion was born in Hill City, Minnesota. Benjamin was the son of Peter Stinski, a Polish immigrant, and of a mother surnamed Kiester, who was German. Hazel was the daughter of Alfred Lorenzo/Robert Coleman and Abbie Elizabeth Glidden, and had deep roots in the U.S.
