Michael’s paternal grandmother is Coreen Faye Johnston (the daughter of Clement Thomas Johnston and Sophie Virovoy). Coreen was born in Connecticut. Clement was the son of Canadian parents, John Thomas Johnston, whose parents were from Scotland and Ireland, respectively; and of Mary Ellen Power/Powers. Michael’s great-grandmother Sophie was the daughter of Eastern European immigrants, who likely were of Ukrainian descent, John Virovoy and Julia Wolf/Wowchuk.
Michael’s maternal grandfather was David Boyd Sigmon (the son of Charles/Charlie Gordon Sigmon and Lida Mae Rhyne). David was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, and had deep roots in the state. He was of mostly German and English ancestry. Charles was the son of Thornton Alonzo Sigmon and Alice Luetta McGinnis. Lida was the daughter Robert Edward Rhyne and Sarah Caroline Smith.
Michael’s maternal grandmother was Barbra/Barbara June Edwards (the daughter of James David Edwards and Grace Lehner). Barbra was born in Detroit, Michigan. James was the son of David Wesley Edwards and Nancy Mary Counsell, and had deep roots in the U.S. Michael’s great-grandmother Grace was the daughter of Leo Lehner and Josephine Wetzel, who were born in Michigan, both of them to German immigrants.
