Michael is the son of June Brody, a radio personality, and David Rapaport, a radio executive. His family is Jewish, from Poland and Russia. His paternal half-sister is actress, comedian, television writer, and producer Claudia Lonow. Her stepfather was comic Mark Lonow, who co-owned The Improv. Michael was raised on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Michael is married to actress Kebe Dunn. He has two children with his former wife, writer and producer Nichole Beattie.
