Mike Modano is an American professional ice hockey player. A center, he played for the Minnesota North Stars, the Dallas Stars, and the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL), and with the U.S. national team. He was the first overall pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, where he was selected by the North Stars. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame of 2014.
Mike is the son of Karen and Michael Modano. He was partly raised in Highland Township. He is married to professional golfer Allison Micheletti, with whom he has five children. Allison is the daughter of professional ice hockey player, analyst, and reporter Joe Micheletti, and the niece of professional ice hockey player Pat Micheletti. Mike is the founder and Vice President of the charity Mike Modano Foundation, Inc.
Mike’s maternal grandfather was Thomas Anderson (the son of Carl J. Anderson and Hedwig Charlotte Wahl). Thomas’s parents were Swedish.
Mike’s maternal grandmother was Gladys Sarnowsky (the daughter of Freidrich Wilhelm Sarnowsky and Elizabeth Marie Thomas). Elizabeth was born in Michigan, to German parents, Edward Thomas and Emelie Schinkel.
