Mitch Allan is an American record producer, singer, and songwriter. He was the frontman of rock band SR-71. He rose to fame with the hit single “Right Now,” and wrote the song “1985” for SR-71, which later became a platinum hit for Bowling for Soup. He has also been a go-to collaborator for major pop artists including Demi Lovato, Third Eye Blind, and Miley Cyrus. He received a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year for co-writing Belinda Peregrín’s “Bella Traición.” He was also the lead guitarist, producer, and backing vocalist of alternative rock project Satellite. Other members of SR-71 are John Allen, Mark Beauchemin, Pat DeMent, Dan Garvin, Jeff Reid, and Mike Ruocco.
He is married to Sana Yu, with whom he has three children.
Mitch’s paternal grandfather was Morris Ellis Scherr (the son of Jacob Scherr and Lena Shapiro Scherr). Morris was born in Manhattan, New York City, New York, to a German Jewish father and a Russian Jewish mother. Jacob was the son of Morris Scherr, who was from Russia; and of Katherine P. Lebouer/Libauer. Lena was the daughter of Issaic Shapiro and Mary Fagle.
Mitch’s paternal grandmother was Rae S. Weiss (the daughter of Samuel Weiss and Bessie Rhines). Rae was born in New York, to an Austrian Jewish father and a Russian Jewish mother.
Mitch’s maternal grandfather was Bennie Bernard Soble (the son of Abe Soble and Dora Specter). Bennie was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Russian Jewish parents. Abe was the son of Bennie Soble and Goldie. Dora was the daughter of Peritz “Paul” Specter and Bessie Cohen.
Mitch’s maternal grandmother was Fannie Mollie Rothenberg (the daughter of David Simche Rothenberg and Beile Bruh). Fannie was born in Richmond, Henrico, Virginia, to Jewish parents, from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. David was the son of Isak Rottenberg and Sary Halpern. Beile was born in Galicia, the daughter of Wolf “William” Barry and Gussie Wetter; William was the son of Israel Shalom Bruh and Elka Goldstein.
