She was born in Onești, Romania, the daughter of Gheorghe and Stefania-Alexandrina Comăneci. Nadia has settled in Norman, Oklahoma, U.S. She is married to American gymnast Bart Conner.
Some web sites state that Nadia was born under the name Anna/Ilona Kemenes, and has Hungarian ancestry. It is not clear if this is accurate.
